Opacification patterns of cardiac masses using low-mechanical index contrast echocardiography: comparison with histopathological findings.

•Echocardiography is the first imaging modality to assess the presence of a cardiac mass.•Histopathology of the resected mass remains the gold standard to achieve the precise diagnosis.•Cardiac magnetic resonance and up-to-date contrast perfusion imaging have been proposed for tissue characterization, but they are not promptly available in the routine clinical setting.•Low-mechanical-index contrast echocardiography is an easy, noninvasive cardiac imaging tool widely available to assess cardiac mass vascularization.•Clinic–pathologic correlation is needed to validate new imaging techniques, such as contrast echocardiography, in the diagnosis and in decision making of cardiac tumors.
